Description
Rain has just swept across Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the whole city finds itself doubled. Set at ground level, the lens turns a simple puddle into a perfect mirror: the deck of the Brooklyn Bridge, its steel cables, the promenade railings and the Lower Manhattan skyline — One World Trade Center first among them — are reflected there without a ripple. The storm sky, shot through with golden light, unifies the scene in an almost sepia tone, at the edge of dusk. The image plays on this accidental symmetry: above, a city of stone and steel; below, its liquid double, denser and darker — the Brooklyn shadows that give the work its title. All it took was a storm, a puddle and a viewpoint at pavement height for the most photographed city in the world to let itself be seen differently.
