In the half-light of a Hanoi bar, a pyramid of bottles gleams like an altar above the stone counter. Set apart, a young woman alone, bent over her phone, inhabits the end of the evening.

Description

The scene takes place late, in a Hanoi bar where the light attends only to what matters: the pyramid of bottles raised at the centre like an altar, the veined stone counter glowing softly, a lunar disc hung on the back wall. Two men in black officiate behind the counter, heads bowed, absorbed in their gestures; at the other end, a young woman alone, bent over her phone, occupies her place the way one occupies the end of an evening. The mirrored ceiling multiplies the metal structures and closes the scene in on itself. Everything here is geometry and half-light, the amber of the spirits against the deep blue of the night; the colour, kept to a whisper, does the rest. It is a theatre of the last drink: no one speaks to anyone, everyone is in their place, and the image holds that suspended moment when the bar goes on shining for almost no one.
